In addition to fries, McCain also produces other foods, including appetizers, oven meals, vegetables, and juice for both the retail and foodservice industries.We are seeking a flexible and adaptable leader to join us as a Technical Sanitation Scientist in Portage La Prairie, MB.The Technical Sanitation Scientist provides direction / leadership for factory GMP, sanitation, Pest Control and hygienic design programs. This position ensures that the Quality Management System is consistently applied throughout the factory within the guidelines of hygienic practices. The function is the guardian of hygiene and sanitation compliance in the facility. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of sanitation/GMP principles, methods, and technology.Key Responsibilities:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following:Ensures that factory sanitation programs are effectively implemented, validated, and maintained to ensure that all products are manufactured in a sanitary environment.Ensures that in partnership with the sanitation team, validated SSOPs (Sanitation SOPs) are in place for all sanitation and cross-contact (including allergen) management needs.Ensures that effective/efficient cleaning frequency is managed through an MSS (Master Sanitation Schedule).Ensures that the cleaning program complies with McCain internal policies and procedures, as well as with any regulatory (Federal, State, Local) requirements.Accountable for allergen program management, validation and compliance.Manages the factory Integrated Pest Management Program (IPM) and ensures that it has been implemented and maintained effectively to support a pest-free environment.Primary contact with Third-party Pest Control Partner (ex. Ecolab) and ensure that joint factory-specific objectives are established and achieved.Actively involved in hygienic design and zoning review process at the factory for existing and new processes as well as the facility structure, including early management of design and capital review process.Administers and manages the factory Sanitation/GMP/ and other related hygiene inspection programs.Manages, tracks and coordinates hygiene training and development of employees and contractors for all factory hygiene programs (areas include: sanitation, GMP, Pest Control, allergens, and hygienic engineering).Promotes quality/hygiene awareness throughout the factory through coaching, training and participation in communication meetings.Leader of the factory HACCP and Food Safety teams. Duties include identification of hazards and controls related to processes and environment, supporting PRP verification activities and providing the link with these activities back to the Food Safety team.Leads the completion of root cause analysis for product or plant events relating to hygiene (Biological, physical or chemical in nature)Ensures system health and oversight of factory EMP program.Conducts Food Safety Risk Assessments to ensure conforming plant operationsOversees all certification programs to ensure compliance against schemes or protocolsDevelops and evolves plant Food Safety programs to ensure compliance in an ever-changing environmentWorks with Quality and Food Safety Manager on product innovation and ingredient changesManages the internal audit program with a cross functional teamInternal and external audit prep: Responsible for ensuring compliance for AIB & BRC while driving continuous improvement for QualityWorks with engineering and FSQ Manager for strategic planning on program and capital needs or changesServes as backup to the Facility Food Safety and Quality manager.EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:B.S. Degree in Microbiology, Food Science /Technology, Food Sanitation or related field required.Minimum of 4 years in Food Plant Sanitation / Supervisory experience preferred.Knowledge in Food Safety, sanitation practices, FSMA HACCP / 5S & GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and SSOP writing.Prefer individual with AIB/ASI or some other professional GMP/Sanitation training.Prefer individual completed Pest control training (i.e. State Pesticide Certification, Purdue Correspondence Course).Effective communication skills and ability to train and facilitateCourage to escalate, Strategic thinker, Self-motivationAbility to dialogue with all levels in the factory (give clear directions)Demonstrated analytic, problem solving and decision-making skillsStrong working knowledge of continuous improvement processSustainability and Planet Friendly Practices are at the heart of McCain:We have embarked upon a journey to create planet-friendly food.
