Assists in resolving complex psychosocial problems. Carries out a variety of casework and counselling methods; consults extensively with hospital staff and community agencies regarding the psychosocial aspects of the patient’s situation and participates in the training of Social Work students.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceMasters of Social Work degree (M.S.W.) from an accredited school of Social Work required. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers. Related social work experience, preferably in a medical setting, and demonstrated clinical competence.Skills And Abilities

Link to Full Job DescriptionAdditional information for applicantsCurrently, this temporary full time registered social work position is located at the Victoria General Hospital on the Neo-Natal Intensive Care unit, the Postpartum unit and the Pregnancy Support and planning team. Social workers work in team based care. Specifically 1. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – supporting parents who have an infant in a health crisis. 2. the Pregnancy Support and Planning Team working with clients who are socially high risk related to addiction, mental health, low income, domestic violence, and homelessness. 3. Postpartum unit – supporting parents who have experienced a loss of greater than 20 weeks old ; Services include brief supportive counselling in all areas identified and in particular grief, loss, trauma adjusting to a health diagnosis; providing resource allocation and referrals. Support with all financial, equipment and housing applications is required in daily work tasks with clients. Social workers work collaboratively with the Ministry of Children and Families in all matters related to Child Protection. All acute care social workers are Designated Responders under the Adult Guardianship Act in response to reports of Adult abuse, neglect or self-neglect and must investigate, assess and intervene. Social Workers must be registered with the B.C College of Social Workers to practice in hospitals.Additional ClausesThis position is eligible for up to a $15,000 signing bonus.
