Assists in resolving complex psychosocial problems. Carries out a variety of casework and counselling methods; consults extensively with hospital staff and community agencies regarding the psychosocial aspects of the patient’s situation and participates in the training of Social Work students.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceMasters of Social Work degree (M.S.W.) from an accredited school of Social Work required. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers. Related social work experience, preferably in a medical setting, and demonstrated clinical competence.Skills And Abilities

Link to Full Job DescriptionAdditional information for applicantsThis Masters Degree of Social Work position is located in the Kidney Care Clinic at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. The Social Worker works in team based care with RNs, dietitians, pharmacists, community Island Health clinicians and specialist physicians – nephrologists. Social work service is provided to clients (and their families) experiencing renal failure. Clients served in this clinic are experiencing a decline in renal function and the goal is to support them living well in their home community. Services include: 1. short -term counselling related to grief and adjustment to diagnosis and change in health status; 2. advance care planning; 3. assess and make referrals to accessing various Island Health and other resources and services in the community up to an including financial, equipment and housing applications; 4. preparing for transitioning to other treatment modalities including conservative care. All social workers in hospital are Designated Responders under the Adult Guardianship Act and must investigate, assess and intervene in all matters related to Adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect. Social Workers work collaboratively with the Ministry of Children and Families in matters pertaining to child protection.
