Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.Unposting Date: 2024-12-12 11:59 PMYour roleAs the Senior Managing Director for CBC Ontario, you will be responsible for setting the province’s audience growth strategy and objectives for all platforms, under the direction of the General Manager and Editor in Chief of CBC News.In this key leadership role, you will be accountable for Ontario’s results on all platforms. You will oversee stations and local CBC News staff in Hamilton, London, Ottawa, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Toronto, Kitchener, Waterloo and Windsor, as well as all pop-up locations and special events.You will also serve as the senior CBC representative to regional communities, stakeholders and organizations and act as the senior representative for Ontario under the CBC News division. This role will be based out of the Toronto location.Key Responsibilities:Set the strategic direction for CBC Ontario in line with CBC News strategy and objectivesEnsure journalistic excellence across all news and current affairs programs and platforms in accordance with CBC’s journalistic standards and practices.Responsible for audience relevance as per our public mandate and deliver on ratings results and metrics while ensuring that all programs and sites match or out-perform the previous year’s performance.Oversee the ongoing development of existing shows and the development of new programming according to media priorities, market trends and the CBC News strategy.Build and support a diverse and inclusive team.Strengthen morale and foster a sense of belonging and empowerment in the workplace.Direct and oversee all operations of the region and the allocation and management of all regional resources (people, financial, equipment and facilities):Set appropriate priorities/objectives and measure performance against these objectives;Hold staff accountable, implementing corrective action as required;Provide effective management practices and controls;Ensure staff are well suited for their roles and provide opportunities for training and development accordingly.Build, lead and align a strong motivated regional leadership team.Ensure open and clear communication and disseminate critical information within the province and its stations, with counterparts at Radio-Canada, and within the division, as required.Ensure that CBC is identifying and cultivating strategic partnerships to better connect with the community and enhance programming.Act as spokesperson for provincial issues, where required. Pro-actively represent CBC within the region and conduct public relations initiatives. i.e., key stakeholder contacts.Ensure the development and implementation of a CBC Outreach strategy for Ontario to better serve communities, raise the profile of CBC and increase its value with the public and our stakeholders.Travel: Approx 35% of time spent should involve travel to various locations within Ontario.We are looking for a candidate with the following:A demonstrated and dynamic ability to lead a large journalistic and program team.8+ years experience managing large, complex teams and organizationsAn established ability to set strategic direction and to build objectives and measures of success.Solid planning and organizational skills and the demonstrated ability to implement strategies and plans successfully.Proven experience as an organizational leader, particularly around initiatives that promote diversity, accessibility, and inclusion.Extensive experience and knowledge in the cultural and political landscape of Ontario, its cities and towns.A strong journalistic background and/or a strong programming background encompassing a comprehensive understanding of programming development and production processes.A visionary leader with significant management and people skills.Ability to understand and enable diverse viewpoints and approaches to achieve CBC’s goals.Superior communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate organizational objectives and values to employees, colleagues and members of the community, and to motivate and direct staff.Working knowledge of financial and budgetary management.In depth understanding of the broadcast and digital journalism industry and its practices.Travel: Approx 35% of time spent should involve travel to various locations within Ontario.We value diversity of thought and experiences and encourage you to apply even if you feel you do not meet all the listed criteria.
