Position Number: 00057477Description:About us:The Enterprise Applications and Solutions Integration (EASI) department within the Chief Information Officer’s (CIO) Division is a central department responsible for all matters pertaining to the development, maintenance and effectiveness of the core administrative management and student systems at the U of T. Included within these responsibilities are all central SAP systems, such as Financial Services, Human Resources, Research Administration and Procurement; the central U of T Student System (ROSI); approximately 40 related vendor and specialized web applications, as well as central Document Management applications.Your opportunity:Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, Human Resources Information Systems, or their designate, you will be part of a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative team focused on delivering transformational technology solutions to the University. You will be directly engaged in the development, implementation, and support of the institutional Teaching Assistant Administrative Management System (TAAMS).As a highly motivated member of the TAAMS team, you will be designing and developing complex, database-driven applications on a LAMP platform; planning, developing and maintaining applications using PHP, Laravel, JavaScript (jQuery), CSS, and HTML; creating MySQL and PostgreSQL queries; and assessing appropriate security options and solutions. In the role of Senior Application Developer, you plan, architect, design, develop, implement, test, and solve problems related to TAAMS involving authentication, encryption, and databases used by the University community. You will demonstrate innovation and leadership indeveloping and enhancing TAAMS and will participate in the planning and direction of TAAMS.Your responsibilities will include:
- Analyzing, recommending, and designing highly complex software architecture
- Developing and updating architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide applications
- Writing complex technical code
- Evaluating programming code to ensure it has validity, compatibility, and that it meets appropriate standards
- Developing technical application implementation plans
- Commenting on programming code for the purposes of standardization and consistency
- Analyzing, recommending and designing technical solutions for highly complex IT problems
- Advising on cost, feasibility and impact of different implementation solutions
- Leading and planning IT projects
- Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
- Planning and estimating financial resources required for programs and/or projects
- Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of related experience in programming and scripting.
- Proven expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining large-scale applications.
- Expertise in PHP, Laravel, and MVC architecture.
- Expertise in front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Vue.js, React).
- Expertise designing and managing databases with MySQL/PostgreSQL.
- Experience with version control tools such as Git.
- Demonstrated experience in reading and understanding established API specifications.
- Experience creating and maintaining RESTful APIs for seamless data integration.
- Demonstrated ability ensuring high-quality code by writing unit tests (e.g., PHPUnit) and resolving bugs.
- Expertise optimizing application performance for scalability and efficiency.
- Proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product managers, in agile workflows.
- Familiarity with web application security best practices and experience implementing security policies and procedures.
- Experience with cloud native deployment with Azure and, optionally, AWS and/or Google Cloud.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex software application issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders and team members at all levels.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.

Assets (Nonessential):
- Preference will be given to candidates with PHP/Laravel full stack development experience in a decentralized, higher education environment or similarly complex enterprise.
