Job Title: Research Assistant: Biafra Mass Starvation (1967-1970): Genocide, Memory, Witnessing

Job Description: Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.Position Overview:This project is part of a broader research into the cultural representations of Biafra mass starvation. The present project explores the visual cultures of Biafra mass starvation including photography, film, artwork, monuments/memorials, and memorabilia. The project aims to identify, collect, and interrogate visual cultural representations of Biafra mass starvation victims.I am looking for an experienced researcher who will work with me as a research assistant (RA) to achieve the current project’s objectives. My ideal RA is a versatile researcher with some experience in visual cultural research, data collection and annotation. Some familiarity with the history of Biafra will be given preference.Duties:

  • Assist in research review/evaluation, data collection and annotation, and analysis
  • Assist in the review of relevant literature
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and manuscripts for publication
  • Participating in meetings/discussions related to the research
  • Performing any other relevant tasks as required or assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum completed undergraduate degree.
  • Preference will be given to an experienced researcher in humanities or social sciences with knowledge or experience of visual cultures and some familiarity with Biafra.

Condition(s) of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
