The University of Ottawa Library is looking for an innovative, motivated and service-oriented individual to fill the position of an Inclusion Librarian (Replacement).The ideal profile is a creative person who works well with colleagues in a stimulating and changing environment.Environment: The University of Ottawa is recognized nationally and internationally as one of the country’s top research universities and the largest bilingual (French and English) university in the world. Located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Anishinaabe-Algonquin people, in the heart of downtown Ottawa, it contributes to the economy, culture and quality of life of Canada’s Capital.Responsibilities:Reporting to the Head Design & Outreach, the Inclusion Librarian engages with campus and community partners to ensure that the Library is as inclusive and accessible as possible for all current and potential users.The incumbent builds networks with stakeholders on campus whose work centres on accessibility and inclusion, such as Student Academic Success Service – Academic Accommodations, the International Office, the Indigenous Resource Centre and the Human Rights Office. The Librarian connects and fosters relationships with underrepresented student populations through outreach to representative student groups and organizations. The incumbent coordinates consortial initiatives, such as the Ontario Council of University Libraries’ ACE (Accessible Content E-Portal) service. The incumbent will recommend opportunities for staff training, education and awareness building for topics and issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion.The Librarian actively participates in and/or leads Library collaborative activities. The incumbent is a participative member of an evolving organization that emphasizes service quality, innovation, outreach, and partnership within the Library, across campus, and beyond.The incumbent is responsible for the following work and activities:
- Establish relationships and engage with relevant campus services, student groups, and community organizations, working collaboratively to support positive and inclusive student experiences.
- Coordinate outreach activities to engage with underserved student populations.
- Evaluate library programs and services to ensure they are inclusive and accessible, and propose recommendations based on best practices for universal design.
- Maintain current awareness of and apply relevant developments in area(s) of expertise.
- Work effectively to carry out activities and projects with groups of people in a variety of environments, including the Library, the University, and with external communities and partners.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Head, Design and Outreach.
Term: Replacement Librarian (12 months).Salary: Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. - At least 2 years of professional experience, or fewer if the experience is particularly pertinent to the position.
- Effective oral and written communication skills in both French and English. Knowledge of other languages will be considered an asset.
- Awareness of the needs of and challenges faced by underrepresented populations.
- Experience in developing, building and sustaining partnerships, preferably in an academic setting.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with people of varying backgrounds.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, team-based environment.
- Adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to a changing environment.
- Problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Capacity to identify areas of opportunity and to develop and implement innovative solutions to respond to them.
