The ECP3 is a collaboration between researchers at McGill University and the University of Sherbrooke involving ten principal investigators in multiple departments.Position Summary:
Under the direction of a Principal Investigator and the Executive Management Committee, the Project Officer is responsible for conducting end-to-end coordination, planning, and delivery of the ECP3 initiatives, while ensuring that expectations regarding approved scope, timeline and results/qualities of delivery are met or exceeded. The Project Officer works closely with the Faculty at McGill and University of Sherbrooke, with the Office of Sponsored Research and Facilities Management.Primary Responsibilities:Steward the progress and sustainability of the ECP3. Oversee integration of unit administrative procedures with existing systems at McGill and Sherbrooke and liaise with relevant administrative offices. Develop effective relationships across McGill and U Sherbrooke. Ensure delivery of services to partners and stakeholders. Advise on broad range of administrative issues and resolve problems or make recommendations. Keep abreast of a Deferred Maintenance project with regards to the impact of its construction delays on CFI-funded infrastructure facilities earmarked for the main Raymond building and the New Raymond Teaching greenhouse.Establish financial priorities and facilitate, manage and monitor purchase of the various infrastructure. Oversee approved budget, financial planning and control, spending monitoring, reporting and compliance according to accountability requirements set by the financial contributors . Keep abreast of CFI funding regulations (or changes to existing requirements). Amount of original grant in 2018 from CFI and partners is ~$24 million.Actively seek new partnership opportunities and research collaborators in industry. Conduct exploratory negotiations with these prospective partners. Liaise with unit’s partners (academic institutions, industry, government and community organizations).Secure fundraising resources in line with University policies. Develop and propose fundraising strategies to facilitate the ECP3’s sustainability during and beyond the CFI funding period. Maintain active collaboration with local University Advancement staff for alignment with the Faculty’s priorities and efforts.Develop and/or implement control systems and tools for infrastructure usage and billing. Make recommendations to improve performance of all teams. Provide mentoring and guidance as required.Manage the marketing and promotion strategies associated with the ECP3. Explore and draw on the full range of print and electronic communications to create optimal awareness of ECP3’s achievements.Manage activities of the ECP3’s various committees; responsible for schedule and notice of meetings, agenda, recordkeeping, documents and other logistics. Attend and present materials at meetings. Obtain data for inclusion in a variety of reports May be required to plan and lead organization of annual meetings, conferences or other high-visibility events. Oversee the activities and achievements of all ECP3’s committees and sub-committees, including recruitment of highly qualified research staff.Other Qualifying Skills and/or AbilitiesAn undergraduate degree in a science related field.Business degree, an asset.Three years experience with large project management, preferably working with CFI project management, biological safety, laboratory construction & certification, procurement, and billing software.Proven managerial, organizational and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and interact collegially with a diverse range of academic, private sector, government and scientific stakeholders. Proven financial administration skills. Ability to make presentations to diverse groups in a scientific setting. Experience working within the academic/research community, commercial environments and government funding agencies.Must be fluently bilingual in English and French, both spoken and written. Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
