We are seeking a Professional Engineer to work in Grid Infrastructure Planning Department. Under the general direction of the
Senior Planning Engineer, is responsible for conducting planning studies for the expansion of the 66 kV and 33 kV systems in
Manitoba and recommend system improvements and enhancements to ensure economic, reliable, and adequate customer supply.
Responsibilities:

Perform and oversee system studies to assess the reliability and adequacy of Manitoba Hydro’s 66 kV and 33 kV supply
systems using software such was PSS/E and PSCAD.

Develop facility expansion plans to provide a reliable and economic supply for future loads, including recommendations for the
addition of terminal station transformer capacity, transmission upgrades, and associated facilities.

Perform load interconnection evaluation and facility studies, including the addition and expansion of major industrial
customers.

Develop documentation and conceptual and capital budget single line diagrams for the preparation of Capital Investment
Concepts and Capital Investment Justifications for recommending capital expenditures.

Assist in consultations with external customers to provide technical information on interconnection options, including meeting
with Customer Energy Services representatives and load customers to negotiate and resolve issues related to interconnection
options.

Investigate system capability to support proposed customer motor-starting requirements and investigate power quality
considerations like harmonics and remediating options.

Responsible for preparation of the 66kV and 33kV line and substation load forecast and terminal station referral.

Responsible for maintenance of the 66 kV and 33 kV transmission line impedance database and coordinate with the
distribution and transmission planners to monitor information on new facilities being installed.
Qualifications:

Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a university of recognized standing with a minimum of six years of related engineering
of which two years should be in power systems analysis and planning.

Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a
specified amount of time).

Experience conducting load flow, voltage stability and specialized power system studies using software such as PSS/E,
PSCAD, and RTDS.

Understanding of power system and the application of system planning criteria and engineering economics to power system
planning analysis.

Working knowledge of 66 kV and 33 kV power systems equipment.

Effective communicator and ability to prepare technical reports, memoranda, and engage in presentations and discussion

within the Corporation, government agencies, manufacturers, consulting engineers, and other utility representatives.

Proven ability to carry out assigned duties with mature judgment, minimum supervision, and delegate responsibility and
motivate and supervise others.

Must be able to work on project study teams and to work effectively with others on committees and working groups in dealing
with customer issues.

Knowledgeable in the capital budgeting and the Corporate Value Framework process is an asset.

A post-graduate degree and/or post-graduate courses in power system expansion, voltage stability and applying FACTS
devices is an asset.

Experience with computer programming languages such as Python or FORTRAN, is an asset.

Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $46.06-$63.58 Hourly,
$88,251.02-$121,841.46 Annually.
