This role requires analytical thinking, design thinking, systems thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and cybersecurity expertise.The Principal Security Architect is the primary contact for assigned cybersecurity concerns’ design and decision aspects that support the organization’s strategic directions, initiatives, and service developments. The Principal Security Architect cultivates and maintains strong relationships with senior IT, risk management and business stakeholders. The position consults with sponsors to understand the goals and objectives of a specific initiative, project, or program. It provides advice on the effective delivery of cybersecurity solutions using their expertise. This includes supporting the planning, execution, and delivery of mission-critical cybersecurity initiatives that meet the needs and objectives of the institution. The role also involves participating in the IT governance process by reviewing and assessing proposals submitted through the security governance process as needed.DutiesInterpret Business Needs
- Translates business and technical requirements into a cybersecurity architectural blueprint to achieve strategic business objectives; works with stakeholders to document all security architecture design and analysis work.
- Work closely with IT and business leadership to ensure a robust architectural runway supporting future cybersecurity requirements.
- Understands business drivers and capabilities (future and current state) and determines corresponding enterprise security designs and change requirements to drive the organization’s targeted business outcomes.
Assess Technology
- Monitors the current-state security solution portfolio to identify deficiencies through the aging of the technologies used by the application or misalignment with business requirements.
- Understands emerging cybersecurity trends and disruptions and their practical application to enable new and evolving business and operating models.
- Analyzes the business-IT environment to detect critical deficiencies, legacy, and technical debt and recommends improvement solutions.
- Facilitates the evaluation, selection, and lifecycle considerations of security product standards and services and the design of standard and custom security configurations.
Design Solutions
- Collaborating with key stakeholders, such as the Information Security Team, the Principal Security Architect evaluates and recommends the appropriate cybersecurity technologies, tools, processes, and products to create a security architecture that is feasible, scalable, secure, and maintainable.
- Gathers, documents, and communicates the security architecture to the relevant parties, providing guidance and support throughout the solution development life cycle.
- Ensures that developed security architectures are consistent and compatible with the Enterprise Architecture (EA) and Enterprise Architecture Principles (EAPs).
Technology Governance
- Actively participates in reviewing and assessing proposals submitted through the security governance processes, engaging IT and other organizational stakeholders as required.
- Provides guidance, advice, and support to the organizational community regarding the security governance processes.
- Supports IT Directors and Managers in defining, assessing, and prioritizing IT-driven and managed projects and initiatives.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in information technology, cybersecurity, or a related field is required. An equivalent combination of professional experience will be considered.
- At least ten years of experience in at least two cybersecurity solution development disciplines, including but not limited to security architecture, network security, offensive security, security operations, application security, identity management, or cloud security.
- Good understanding of strategic and emerging cybersecurity trends and the practical application of existing and emerging technologies to new and evolving business and operating models.
- Practical experience in delivering projects under project management principles.
- Proficient in translating future-state business capabilities and requirements into security architecture requirements.
- Proven analytical, planning, organizational, technical, strategic, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Organizationally savvy with the ability to navigate organizational politics with tact and ease.
- Skilled at influencing, guiding, and facilitating decision-making for stakeholders and peers.
- Ability to articulate new ideas and concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences alike.
- Skilled at understanding the long-term (“big picture”) and short-term perspectives of organizational decision-making and problem-solving.
