Reporting to Senior Director of Administration, Facilities Management and Ancillary Services, develop and implement communication services consistent with the unit’s mission and objectives, including news, public relations, social media, translation, web and multimedia. Foster long-term relationships and two-way communication with McGill’s internal constituencies through various programs and communications strategies. Promote strong relationships with senior administration, employees, external organizations, government, and communities of interest. Provide professional communication and public relations expertise to the AVP and Directors/colleagues in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, programs and strategies in order to build and enhance the University’s relationships with internal/external constituencies. Monitor progress and results.Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior professional communications and public relations expertise in order to build and enhance FMAS’s relationship with internal units and external organizations.
  • Oversee the implementation of short- and long-term goals and objectives related to the function for FMAS.
  • Audit, lead and implement the redesign and/or review of the websites under the responsibility of Facilities Management and Ancillary Services, including liaising with the units featured, consulting stakeholders, producing, and publishing content, and overseeing user experience testing.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of communications plans to support issues management efforts and manage sensitive issues that have potential to create significant precedents, providing input and advice to senior administration
  • Develop broad communications plans to design consultation processes and communicate results and manage change towards FMAS.
  • Oversee the content, editing, publication and distribution of the primary vehicles of communication with units and staff members using diverse channels such as WMS, Envoke, AI, social medias, Power Points.
  • Conceptualize, prepare and disseminate information and publications and perform specialized internal and external communication assignments, including presentation content for various meetings and events organized by Facilities Management and Ancillary Services
  • Write, draft and edit a wide variety of print and electronic communications for dissemination to key public audiences, including social medias
  • Prepare speaking notes for the AVP-FMAS and Directors of FMAS.
  • Manage the production of guidelines and criteria on communication plans for FMAS’s senior administration, including crisis management and media contact.
  • Oversee implementation of new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the unit by keeping abreast of new developments and trends in the field of communications and public- relations approaches and initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to unit members and other professionals.
  • Maintain an open and effective working relationship with central communication group in the James Administration Building.
  • Oversee implementation of graphic and writing-style standards to be followed for all material published by the unit.
  • Attend senior level meetings and represent FMAS at internal and external meetings.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or AbilitiesExcellent writing, editing and oral communication skills. Ability to work in word processing, spreadsheets, Power Point, AI, social medias, Envoke, Azure and WMS. Understanding of the University’s organizational structure and governance. Experience in developing and implementing strategic communication plans, including change management communications. Experience in managing communications priorities in a complex organizational structure, negotiating content to accommodate differing internal priorities. Ability to function under pressure and manage tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build constructive and effective relationships. Discretion, integrity and tact. Proven experience using social media and technology to improve communication with targeted audience. Superior capacity to communicate in English, both in writing and orally, and excellent French language comprehension and writing skills.Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
