We encourage and actively seek applications from Indigenous, Black, racialized people, visible minorities, 2SLGBTQIA+ persons, all genders, and persons with disabilities.GBC VisionTo be a college renowned for its inclusion, excellence, relevance, impact, and leadership.Position Description:Reporting to the Director, Early Childhood Education, the Manager, Childcare Lab School is accountable for the effective operation of community-based childcare centres that, in addition to providing curriculum and care to children and families, serve as teaching facilities for students enrolled in the College’s Early Childhood Education program. The Manager, Childcare Lab School, is accountable for ensuring that the Centre maintains standards prescribed by the Ministry of Education Child and Family Act; meets all government quality assurance requirements and ensures that the centre is compliant with government criteria for funding.Key Responsibilities:
- As part of the CSHS Divisional administrative team, works collaboratively in the development and implementation of the School’s business plan.Working with key internal and external stakeholders ensures program development and planning is on-going to meet future needs of stakeholders and aligns with the academic strategy of the college.
- Developing and implementing a business plan, including sources of revenue and funding, and an annual budget for the department, and proactively attracting new sources of revenue for the schools which would include international initiatives.
- Responsible for Child Care Centre (Lab School) Operation and Administration. Supervises the day-to-day operations of the centre ensuring compliance to the various Acts and Regulations such as the Child Care and Early Years Act and the Assessment for Quality Indicators (AQI).
- Maintains a high level of performance by recruiting, interviewing, training, developing, evaluating and monitoring the Early Childhood Educators, Assistants and kitchen support.
- Provides direction and guidance on matters pertaining to the Early Childhood Education (ECE) job description (curriculum, student-educator evaluation, family involvement and appropriate practices.
- Demonstrates leadership and effective team building; promotes staff professional development through exemplary applied learning.
- In partnership with the ECD faculty, ensures that curriculum and all aspects of the program reflect the principles of the School of Early Childhood.
- Reviews weekly curriculum plans with ECE educators; sets program objectives with centre staff; plans curriculum meetings with educators and other support staff.
- Monitors program/curriculum implementation through direct supervision and active involvement in playroom activity.
- Contributes to the education of the ECE students by managing a high-quality learning environment that models/practices congruent with the academic program.
- Directs/coordinates student placement schedule within the centre and supervises the subsequent evaluation of their progress.
- Liaises with faculty on current issues, discusses expectations regarding student placement.
- Supervises and evaluates students in their field practicum; supports students in international placement experiences.
- Contributes to the financial planning and budgetary control of the College through effective management of the centre’s budget.
- Controls expenditures and participates in centre budget planning through projection costs and income; ensures financial viability by maintaining enrolment targets.
- Works collaboratively with College departments (i.e.) HR, Payroll to ensure compliance with College policies, procedures and processes.
- Plans and organizes ongoing communication and marketing with workplace partners, families, professional government and community organizations.
- Hosts international/local site visits demonstrating the high quality of the ECD program; being an active participant within the internal/external College community by participation on various committees.
- Supports, plans, attends and participates in College events (i.e.) career fairs, college fair, college holiday children’s party, open houses, orientation, United Way events; partnerships with other educational and professional organizations (i.e.) O.I.S.E., Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), Health in the City, Social Justice.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
- Early Childhood Education Diploma and a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field OR a Post Diploma Certificate in Early Childhood Leadership & Management.
- A certificate or formal education in Business Management is an asset.
- Five years front-line experience in Early Childhood Development with a variety of age groups with progress management and leadership experience in an early years setting.
- Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
- Must have health assessment and immunization as required by the Ministry of Education.
- Current St. John’s Ambulance or Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate.
- Knowledge of College structure, policies and procedures is desirable.
- Advanced computer skills: Excel, Microsoft Word, email competency; with knowledge of accounting programs are required.

- Effectively manage resources (budget, staff, facilities) and scheduling to meet licensing and safety guidelines and ensure quality programming.
- Knowledge of current theoretical theory and its application to practice; ensures that the staff/ team is informed and guides them in implementation according to this knowledge so that the applied learning environment is congruent with the Academic program.
- Demonstrates ability to oversee large caseloads while balancing other duties with non-negotiable deadlines and conflicting priorities; must have attention to detail.
- Ability to manage stressful and complex time-sensitive situations with a high degree of diplomacy and discretion.
- Strong client service leadership and conflict resolution skills. Exceptional organizational and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to facilitate frequent contact with students and community partners.
- Must have a strong customer service orientation. Some training in sensitivity related to serving a diverse student population.
- Presentation skills are required to successfully promote the College and its students to community agencies and organizations.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work both independently and as a team member, with minimum supervision.
- The complexity, diversity, and pressure characteristic of this position require the incumbent to have excellent time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Strong collaboration and people skills, and the ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience, and styles.
- Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decision-making processes.
