Residents and visitors of Thunder Bay enjoy the harmony of a city rich in wide-open green spaces, parks and wilderness – and a major centre for visual and performing arts, and culture.If you truly enjoy the advantages of work life balance that a smaller city provides in a large organizational setting, then come join us!If you already live here, we can’t wait for you to join our team!The OpportunityAs the Maintenance Supervisor – Water Treatment Plant, you will be responsible for the administration and supervision of maintenance for the Water Treatment Plant and associated subsystems, including the development, implementation, coordination, and maintenance of a comprehensive maintenance and servicing plan for all infrastructure and equipment.This role reports to the Plant Superintendent and has the following accountabilities:
- Assesses Maintenance staffing needs, makes recommendations on complement amendments and organizational structure, participates in recruitment processes, and makes effective hiring decisions.
- Supervises maintenance staff including staff development, performance management/review, coaching / mentoring, health & safety, collective agreement administration, discipline, and termination decisions.
- Creates complex and integrated work plans and schedules to achieve maintenance and service objectives, incorporating elements including routine preventative maintenance, major and minor repairs and overhauls, process and equipment commissioning, special projects and related factors; conducts logistical evaluations to determine optimal methods of service and repair delivery.
- Utilizes maintenance management planning systems, historical records, and other related data to forecast labour, materials and supplies, facility space, time, tool and other resources requirements; identifies resource constraints and develops plan priority and schedule adjustments on the basis of the analysis.
- Develops and maintains infrastructure budget; assists the Plant Superintendent in the development of the Plant operational and capital budgets.
- Ensures safety regulations, programs, and procedures are adhered to; coordinates plant safety meetings as required.
- Designated as Operator in Charge (OIC), participates in the on-call duties associated with the WTP and subsystems emergency response protocol; assumes the duties of the Operator in Overall Responsibility (ORO), as required.
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will have the following:
- Degree or diploma in an engineering technology field; or an equivalent amount of related experience together with a Class III certificate of competency for Water Treatment as per the regulations of the Ontario Water Resources Act O. Reg. 170/03;
- Proven experience in Asset Management and industrial maintenance programs.
- A minimum of five years experience with proven administrative and supervisory skills preferably in the municipal sector.
- Must have proven experience in the operation of microcomputers and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
- Must be capable of interpreting construction drawings and maintenance/operations manuals.
