  • Licensed Practical Nurse License, in good standing with the Provincial College of Nurses
  • Current BCLS+ ACLS
  • Minimum 1 year experience within ER unit
  • Vulnerable Sector Check, renewed within the year
  • Professional Liability Insurance

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans and manages patient care according to each patient’s needs
  • Interviews patients and records their medical history and physical condition
  • Obtains patient vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and respiration
  • Provides routine care for patients
  • Observes patients’ health
  • Reviews medical charts
  • Accompanies patients to their rooms
  • Assists physicians and registered nurses
  • Communicates with patients and their families
  • Performs standard diagnostic procedures including EKG, phlebotomy, venipuncture, PFT, and Doppler
  • Prepares specimens for lab courier
  • Administers medications
  • Provides wound care
  • Prepares and administers injections and/or enemas
  • Assists with patient comfort
  • Monitor catheters

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Admitting new residents
  • Assisting physicians during rounds of residents’ rooms
  • Assigning and delegating duties to non-licensed nursing staff
  • Monitoring resident care and supervising other nursing staff
  • Performing ongoing assessments of residents’ physical and mental health
  • Explaining procedures and treatment protocols to residents

  • Must provide satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Must maintain Licensed Practical Nurse class license with the Provincial College of Nurses
