Job Description: We are inviting you to declare interest in an acting opportunity in a full-time position lasting 6 months as an Instruction Partner for Waste Services Training. This opportunity is open to all Waste Services Branch employees within Collections (CUPE 30) that meet the qualifications listed below.The Instruction Partner is responsible for promoting and reinforcing the Certified Evaluator Program across the branch. Employees will conduct evaluations and competency audits, site visits, and training observations in order to maintain expectations, standards, and performance levels of the program. They are also responsible for the facilitation of various equipment training programs, both in the field and classroom settings to Waste Services employees. In addition, training / instruction includes proper safety procedures, equipment inspections, hazard assessments, safety training competency testing and evaluations. Possibility of involvement in OH&S investigations as well.The Instruction Partner will perform these duties while working hand in hand with the Waste Services Safety & Operational Training Team under the broad direction of the Supervisor.What will you be doing?
- Promote and reinforce the Certified Evaluator Program across the branch
- Employees will conduct evaluations and competency audits, site visits, and training observations in order to maintain expectations, standards, and performance levels of the program
- Coordinate and co-facilitate classroom and field training to employees in the operation of equipment including but not limited to: forklift, wheel loader/ telescopic wheel loader, telehandler, skid steer, toolcat, street sweeper, backhoe, excavator, and other related equipment
- Facilitate training for various sized groups, including 1-to-1 and up to 50+ individuals
- Assist in setting objectives, conducting safety tests, evaluating and determining if operators / staff are qualified to operate equipment
- Co-facilitate new hire orientation including but not limited to personal protective equipment (PPE), accident prevention, and worksite hazard awareness
- Ensure Supervisors and OH&S are included on notifications and unsafe behaviors
- Record management and administration of attendance, training confirmation, LMS registration, evaluations and other related material
- Other related duties, as requested and required
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12
- A minimum of 3 year’s experience in Waste Services is required
Skills Required for Success:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and tactfully; while adapting to diverse audiences
- Ability to deliver information at a level that is understandable and in an effective manner that incorporates adult learning techniques
- Ability to determine training needs, assess skills attained during training, and administer competency testing
- Excellent client relationship interpersonal skills, supportive of a strong team environment
- Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
- Vast knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety procedures applicable to the work
- Sound knowledge of City policies and operating procedures related to parks and roadway maintenance equipment
- Capacity to follow documented procedures related to OH&S and ENVISO
- Demonstrated understanding using Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and with the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Must be physically capable of performing assigned duties, and be able to work in all weather conditions and varied shifts
- Demonstrated ability to plan work and lead and direct Operators in regards to safe work practices, procedures and safe work plans in day-to-day operations
