The Thales Ottawa office has been a major supplier and long-term trusted partner to DND, enabling the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Coast Guard to achieve mission success.This position is Hybrid OttawaIntermediate Systems EngineerPosition SummaryThales is looking to hire an Intermediate Systems Engineer who has demonstrated a record of leadership and excellence and should possess the ability to successfully complete new challenges in multidisciplinary and collaborative environments. You will join the Systems Engineering teams located in Ottawa, Canada and provide system engineering support throughout the project execution cycle from specification, design, development, integration, test, and acceptance. In your efforts to develop and sustain mission systems you will integrate a variety of sensors, software, firmware, and apps on commercial and military platforms.Key Areas of Responsibility
- Tailor the system engineering process, practices and tools;
- Estimate and appropriately decompose work in an agile lifecycle process;
- Provide timely and accurate status updates;
- Develop the preliminary and detailed designs for system and subsystem elements; Review and validate internal and subcontractor designs, plans, and schedules; Identify, characterize, and describe issues in the system or its design through problem reports and document and design reviews;
- Author technical documentation to capture the system and subsystem designs including the architecture, interfaces, and installation elements;
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the designs are consistent with needs, desires, and concerns of the end-users; Collaborate with other functions during the implementation and integration of the system and subsystem designs;
- Support the development of verification and validation artifacts including plans and procedures; support the installation and/or integration testing of the systems remotely or on customer site;
- Resolution of technical issues arising during the implementation, integration and testing of the system and subsystem elements;
- Technical subcontract management including management of work scope and compliance of the (subcontractor) supplied solution;
Minimum Requirements
- 2 to 5 years of professional experience in the design and integration of complex systems in commercial and/or military domains.
- Ability to succeed in cross-functional/multidisciplinary teams.
- University or college degree in engineering or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- In addition to the minimum professional experience specified above, experience in any of the following areas would be considered an asset: Any communications experience such as radios, SATCOM, cryptos, telephony; Shipboard and/or Maritime Systems; Radar; Networking – security, routing, configuration, etc.; Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)/Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) (e.g. MIL-STD-461); Emanations Security (EMSEC); and/or Cybersecurity Compliance Frameworks (e.g. NIST, ITSG-33).
Physical Demands
- Minimal lifting of test and electronic equipment, connecting equipment in a lab environment or job site (including onboard vehicle or vessel).
