About the Role:The Proposal Writer facilitates the research, development, review, and editing of proposals for funding and support that will benefit the community; conducts basic research for potential funding sources; and maintains databases while supporting administration in developing proposals. The primary categories of proposals the Proposal Writer will be responsible for are economic development, health, public works, administration, and education.In order to be selected, the successful candidate will have experience and working with Métis, First Nation or Inuit governments or Indigenous organizations, including extensive knowledge of SCOPE funding agreement programming, guidelines and service delivery structure.What you will be doing:
- Develop proposal plans, receive key deliverables, communicate timelines, quality measures, and work on action plans with clearly identified priorities set by Director.
- Research and prepare detailed and accurate reports, briefing notes and presentations.
- If required, attend meetings with senior management, funders, elected officials and government and present where required
- If required, develop communication tools to enhance understanding of issues.
- Promote, track, and measure compliance with program funding requirements by creating and implementing appropriate data collection, reporting, and/or recordkeeping processes
- Grant Writing and Funding Acquisition: Identify funding opportunities and sources to support programs, projects, and initiatives.
- Prepare and submit grant applications, ensuring alignment with funding requirements and strategic priorities of the MNO.
- Facilitates, reviews, and edits proposals; conducts library and electronic research; compiles data; inputs and retrieves data via computer
- Conducts research on potential funding sources; maintains contact with external agencies
- Develops and transforms ideas into grant proposals, serves as a liaison between The Metis Nation of Ontario and grant agencies.
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of particular areas involved in identifying and soliciting grants; may collaborate with various internal departments.
- Coordinates project activities; prepares and processes letters and correspondence, presentation materials, and manuscripts; maintains funding opportunity databases, activity tracking system, and related confidential files
- Researches governmental, foundation, and corporate grants
- Researches grant programs and plans and writes funding applications
- Conducts interdepartmental meetings to identify and prioritize project needs, coordinate and research grant preparation assignments
- Edits draft applications for accuracy, completeness, and clarity and submits all applications in accordance with grant/loan requirements
- Provides timely advice and information on funding opportunities, requirements, and procedures; collaborates in defining and implementing project funding strategies
- Aids in resolving issues and conflicts with funding agencies
- Prepares grant applications for submission and prepares quarterly or annual reports as required by granting agencies
- Reviews revenues and expenditures, and the project status, to ensure that proper expenditures are made for grant projects
- Establishes and maintains relationships with funders
- Writes, submits, and tracks grant applications
- Generates compelling narratives for funding applications and reports
- Develops project descriptions and evaluation plans
- Gathers budget materials for applications and ensures compliance with funding requirements
- Oversees reporting requirements for grants and contracts.
- Handles confidential financial records and grant materials with great discretion
- Regularly reports in writing about all grant search and application activities to (Insert Title of Appropriate Authority)
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of particular areas involved in identifying and soliciting grants; may collaborate with various internal departments.
- May coordinate project activities; prepares and processes letters and correspondence, presentation materials, and manuscripts; maintains funding opportunity databases, activity tracking system, and related confidential files.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of experience in grant/loan funding or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the skill, knowledge, and ability necessary to perform the tasks
- Experience designing and implementing project work plans
- A post-secondary degree in a SPECIALITY-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of policies, processes, practices and documentation used to deliver program services or the Branch mandate
- Understanding of the MNO’s governance structure and the Canada-Métis Nation Accord.
- Strong desire to act in the service of Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
- Significant knowledge of Métis and/or Indigenous policy issues and principles or a demonstrated ability to quickly acquire knowledge.
- Knowledge of Métis-specific and broader Indigenous SCOPE challenges.
- Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal
- Highly detail-oriented
- Exceptional project coordination, time management and organizational skills to meet grant deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of self awareness
- Knowledge of grant application process and the writing of applications
- Knowledge of loan documents and grant applications processes to track the disposition of funding with project managers and funding agencies
- Ability to take initiative and use innovative techniques and ingenuity in preparing grant/loan applications
- Ability to interact with various stakeholders, as required and participate as a team player to coordinate grant projects.
- Ability to research available grant opportunities and gather, analyze, and evaluate a variety of data.
- Ability to work flexible hours for research and travel when required for research and training
- Ability to develop, write and implement strategic plans and ability to provide necessary documentation to support grant requirements
- Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and expand knowledge and to be flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Métis-specific and broader indigenous key challenges, and programs and services
- Bilingualism (considered an asset)
- Accreditation in a professional area; CFRE or MPNL (considered an asset)
Positions at the MNO may require the following: * Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
- Completion and maintenance of Vulnerable Sector Verification
- A reliable vehicle, driver’s licence, $1,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean driving record
- Flexibility to work extended hours as necessary
- Ability to occasionally travel within Ontario for limited periods of time
