This takes hard work and innovation, and we need more like-minded people on our team.Director, Strategic Planning & Business ManagementJob SummaryOperates as the right hand of the COO ensuring the effective organization, resourcing, oversight, and reporting of all major activities across the “Run the Business” and “Innovate the Business” initiatives. Working closely across the COO leadership team to bring alignment and focus in driving the business forward. The Director, Strategic & Planning Business Management will:
- Ensure all strategic initiatives are effectively resourced and work efforts are tracked and progressing
- Lead the preparation of Board, EXCO, and OPCO materials on behalf of the COO
- Lead and organize Business operating reviews
- Own the COO Global Real Estate strategy and develop a target operating model and drive the strategies to achieve it
- Own Business Continuity Planning and Management
- Oversee the steady advancement of Employee Engagement and Reward and Recognition Programs across the COO division.
20%: Strategic Initiatives Oversight
- Support the COO divisional leaders in accessing funding, structuring initiatives, and ensuring all initiatives of clear milestones planned.
- Establish a cadence of accountability for initiative leaders to present progress, access support, and share achievements.
- Chair the COO divisional strategy sessions where teams present new ideas, and gain gating approvals to advance initiatives.
20%: Management Reporting
- Proactively plan for and organize all Board, EXCO, and OPCO materials establishing a forward-looking agenda that is aligned to key Run the Business and Innovate the Business initiatives.
- Support material preparers providing constructive feedback and guiding the enhancement of material quality to be audience ready.
- Establish review timelines that provides the COO with sufficient time to review materials and provide feedback.
20%: Business Operating Reviews
- Establish a cadence of operating reviews that enables deep dives on business performance, tracking observations and takeaways and ensuring takeaways are followed up and carryforwards are tracked in subsequent review sessions.
- Oversee the ongoing continuous maturity of the reviews by guiding the leads behind the scenes to action feedback given, eliminating non-value add materials and commentary and heightening attention and details on key areas of focus.
- Invest the needed time and effort to intimately learn the businesses from the client perspectives as well as our internal teams. Be an active and thoughtful voice of insight, inquiry and challenge in pursuit of more intimate understandings of our business performance and the planned actions to address.
10%: Global Real Estate Strategy
- Work closely with the divisional leaders to establish the target geographic operating model across the COO division
- Establish the guiding principles for COO divisional hiring practices and track adherence to them and progress to our targeted operating model
- Be the primary liaison with the Global Real Estate team providing the voice of the business and ensuring COO team needs are well understood and met in all key strategic real estate decisions.
10%: Business Continuity & Client Disaster Response
- Oversee the monitoring and identifying potential events, independently and in partnership with the business, such as inclement weather, IT outage, facilities outage.
- Evaluation of the risk and impact of disruptive events to Element’s business processes and to clients and their drivers.
- Leading and influencing cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure timely and effective decision making and actioning.
- Determination and execution of actions and next steps including cross-functional team meetings and communications before, during and after a business disruptive event.
- Reporting and potential escalation to Executive and Senior leadership and response program stakeholders.
20%: Employee Engagement
- Establish the engagement structure to ensure COO division is actively engaging in the critical areas of 1) Reward & Recognition, 2) Learning & Development, 3) Community Engagement, and 4) Employee Engagement.
- Lead the active digestion of employee survey results ensuring results are well understood by leadership, action plans are published, and progress is made on key action items.
- Own the establishment of engagement budgets, holiday programming, townhalls, etc.
- Establish a proactive calendar of activities taking advantage of COO and other Senior Leader travel plans to maximize access to senior leadership across the regions.
Budget and Client Accountability
- Develop and manage budgets, ensuring alignment with financial targets and business objectives.
- Monitor and report on financial performance metrics
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies related to asset management.
Supervision and Influence5 direct reports and a further 32 indirect reports comprised of (not limited to) sales managers, remarketing specialist, and operating coordinatorsQualificationsEducation and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- 10+ years of Product and Operations experience
- Experience preparing Senior Executive level materials, preferably board level
- Experience in storytelling and synthesizing complex information
- Comfortable and deeply effective at working laterally across the team, often with more senior team members to deliver on accountabilities
- Extremely articulate and professional with advanced communication skills across a range of mediums
- Enjoys operating in a high paced and constantly changing environment with new challenges every day
- Thrives on bringing clarity and organizing others to be set up for success by mentoring and providing feedback
- Is someone who operates without using formal authority but rather brings genuine help and guidance to make others successful in completing action items.
Knowledge and Competencies
- This role is the right hand of the COO who is leading ~1,500 operations and product professionals across a global portfolio. Organization is key and supporting the COO and the leadership team in the pursuit of achieving the corporate strategy.
- The role will have a blend of accountabilities where the Director will operate along the spectrum of ownership to facilitation. Often working on the formal authority of the COO but stewarding that responsibility very carefully and representing the values and management style of a collaborative and empowering COO while ensuring deliverables are met and met with the highest expectations of quality and timeliness.
The hiring base salary range for this position is $133,400 – $183,370 CAD annually. Actual compensation within this range will be dependent upon the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data.What’s in it for You
