We value our high quality of life and promote a clean, green, beautiful, and healthy community that provides economic opportunity, respects diversity, and provides affordable and safe neighbourhoods that are accessible to all.The City of Thunder Bay is a place where art, culture and nature come together!Watch this video to learn more about our City at:Job Description:POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, procures those commodities assigned in accordance with the City of Thunder Bay “Procurement of Goods and Services”, under Chapter 187 of the City of Thunder Bay Municipal Code (By-law 220-1993).MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: * Prepares and summarizes competitive bids and drafts purchase orders in accordance with policies as defined by the Manager – Supply Management.

  • Reconciles discrepancies between invoices and purchase orders.
  • Performs product research and locates and selects sources of supply.
  • Interviews salespeople and reports results of interviews as required.
  • Acquires and updates catalogue and price lists.
  • Maintains an awareness of price structures, sales tax, and other tax applications.
  • Expedites orders.
  • Authorizes emergency purchases of material, equipment, and services within established guidelines.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience:

  • Minimum secondary school graduation or equivalent combination of education, recent experience and training, including either “Supply Chain Management for the Public Sector” or “Procurement and Supply Management” course (as approved by the Supply Chain Management Association); or “Introduction to Public Purchasing” course plus “Competitive Bidding” course (as approved by the Ontario Public Buyers Association); and
  • Experience in the purchasing field and related purchasing procedures with a broad knowledge of industrial commodities is required

Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated skill in both written and oral communications is essential
  • A good understanding of computer systems and proficiency in the use of microcomputers and related software

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
