Candidates will be strongly interested in medical education.Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions and has been internationally recognized among the world’s top 50 medical schools. The University has an annual budget in excess of $1.7 billion and attracts significant external funding.The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is a growing research and education-focused Department, currently consisting of 6 Full-Time and 2 Special-Continuing Academic Faculty and almost 200 Clinical Faculty across four teaching hospitals. The Department has a fully accredited Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada residency program and a well-developed subspecialty fellowship program. The Department also offers clinical experience to medical students and residents from other training programs during their elective anesthesia rotations. Research groups within the Department are involved in clinical trials that span a wide spectrum of perioperative and pain medicine. The Department’s research strengths are in the areas of neuro-immune contributions to chronic pain states; the neurobiology of pain; prenatal iron deficiency; mechanisms of myocardial protection and ischemia-reperfusion injury; nutritional support and immunometabolism; chronic post-surgical pain and persistent opioid use; psychological interventions and pediatric chronic pain; regional anesthesia and perioperative outcomes.The City of Edmonton, with a growing and diverse population of ~ 1.2 million, is the cosmopolitan capital of Alberta known as “The City of Festivals”. Details about Alberta Health Services can be found at .Position SummaryThe successful candidate will be a physician (MD), with FRCPC or equivalent in anesthesiology or be eligible for FRCPC application and will also be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). The ideal candidate will have received advanced training in educational scholarship. The successful applicant will be expected to mentor and teach medical students, residents and fellows, in addition to supervising summer and elective research students. The role involves participation in clinical care, teaching, research, and quality improvement.
