We’re united by a shared commitment to excellent and equitable health care.Position OverviewDirectly accountable to the Assistant Director, Facility Management, the Power Engineer 3rd Class operates, on a rotating shift, the power plant from a central control area to provide heat, steam, hot water, oxygen, compressed air, vacuum, air conditioning, ventilation, emergency electrical power and fire protection system. Does minor maintenance throughout a large hospital complex and powerhouse. Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (e.g. utilizing personal, protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies their Manager or their designates (i.e. supervisors) of all occurrences, injuries illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers, or any others who enter the premises.Experience
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of a 1st, 2nd or 3rd class high-pressure steam plant.
- Experience in building operation and building automation systems.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Graduation from high school with courses in chemistry, physics and mathematics or vocational school with Power Engineering Courses.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Valid 3rd Class Power Engineers License for the Province of Manitoba is mandatory.

- Demonstrates knowledge and support of:

- Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
- Knowledge of safety procedures including lock-out/tag-out, confined entry, fall protection, PPE.
- Knowledge of building and equipment blueprint reading.
- Knowledge of operating procedures for high pressure boilers, chillers, refrigeration systems, water treatment, diesel generators, pumps, fans, heating and other building systems.
- Knowledge of safe and proper methods of maintaining and repairing mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building systems.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand technical language and manuals.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to install and repair machinery, equipment and piping.
- Ability to collect and interpret data of machinery use, for adjustments and records.
- Ability to operate pneumatic and electronic control systems.
- Ability to work under stressful and emergency conditions.
- Ability to adhere closely to established standards and processes specified for the operation of machinery, equipment and building systems.
- Ability to create files and reports for accurate documentation of operation and tests.
- Ability to respect the privacy and rights of patients/residents that may be encountered carrying out duties.
- Skilled in operation and completion of all job duties including water testing, operation of sequential equipment and anticipating operating sequences.
Physical Requirements
- May be required to work extended hours.
- May involve exposure to extreme heat, cold, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, etc.
- May encounter aggressive and/or agitated patients/residents/staff/visitors.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
