Job Title: Sr IBM “I” Application Developer

Location: Winnipeg, MB

Job Description: Senior IBMi Application Developer
SRA Staffing is excited to be sourcing a Senior IBMi Application Developer for our trusted Financial Services client with head offices in Winnipeg, MB.
We are open to local onsite, hybrid, or remote from across Canada. If you are not on site, there is a requirement for an initial 2-week onboarding visit followed by onsite visits approximately 2-3 times a year for team building, meetings and events. (expenses paid)
The successful candidate will leverage their extensive knowledge of the IBMi operating system and development environment to develop, test, and maintain custom IBMi applications while driving continuous improvement and innovation. Future growth opportunities for leadership within this legacy team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, implement, and maintain IBMi enterprise software applications with a focus on high-quality, scalable solutions.
  • Provide comprehensive application support to users, management, and business partners, ensuring timely and effective resolution of issues. (50% of the role)
  • Collaborate effectively with managers, development teams, database administrators, business analysts, and business units on project specifications, quality issues, and standards, fostering a cooperative and productive work environment.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation to ensure clarity and consistency in project deliverables.
  • Actively participate in discussions and make well-informed recommendations regarding technical architecture decisions and enhancements, contributing to strategic planning and innovation.
  • Recommend and implement software enhancements and technical improvements, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Share knowledge and mentor team members in a professional, friendly, and supportive manner, promoting a culture of learning and development.
  • Collaborate effectively with teams or work independently as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in various work scenarios.

You will bring:

  • Education: A degree or diploma in Computer Science or related program.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of five years in application development, specifically with IBMi/AS400, DB2, and RPGLE.
  • Experience in web or Windows application development and modernization.
  • Familiarity with GIT, SQL, Rational Developer for i (RDi), and Visual Studio is an asset.
  • Skills:
  • Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders.
  • Understanding of Lean/Agile principles and practices.
  • Ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Additional Assets:
  • Experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience in the group insurance industry.

Working Conditions:

  • Duties are performed in an office environment or remote.
  • Must be willing to participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Must be available to deploy application changes during off-hours.
  • Must be available from time-to-time to support issues during off-hours.
  • Must be eligible to work for any employer in Canada without sponsorship or Visa required.
