Job Description: What will you do?As a Labourer II during the Winter Season, you will be:
- Perform manual labour for Active Pathways Snow Removal Program which may include but is not limited to: the operation of powered equipment and John Deere 72” with a broom; shoveling and maintaining parks and facilities for public access
- Adhere to existing standard operating procedures, environmental and safety programs, as well as conducting Field Level Risk Assessments daily
- Inspect and document all equipment is safe to use before starting task
- Provide customer service and communicate with the public and other employees professionally and respectfully
- Other related duties as required
As a Concrete Worker during the Summer Season, you will:
- Build, erect, and align concrete forms for various concrete structures
- Put in rebar or wire mesh, mixing and placing concrete and applying finishing methods for rebuilding of sidewalks, curbs, gutters, ramps and other concrete related structures
- Interpret blueprints, reading survey stakes for establishing grade
- Estimate volume of concrete needed for each job
- Provide guidance and instruction to untrained workers as required
- Answer simple questions on a jobsite from passing members of the public
- Perform general labour duties such as but not limited to: deploy coldmix or labour duties on a pothole truck
- Pick litter from roadways and adjacent, and other related duties as required
- Ensure all work is to be performed in accordance with the Branch’s Occupational Health and Safety Program and Enviso
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- Completion of grade 10
- 1 year experience in parkland snow removal including experience on related walk behind snow removal equipment
- 1 year experience in all phases of concrete work including but not limited to construction of formwork, pouring of concrete, and final finishing
Assets:
- Certification on toolcat, MV or other ride on snow removal equipment is an asset
Skills required for success:
- Considerable job knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in concrete construction and maintenance
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work
- Ability to instruct and direct the work of unskilled and semi-skilled workers
- Ability to use the necessary hand and power tools for work assignments
- Knowledge of COE & PARS Standard Operating Procedures
- Ability to make decisions, assign tasks and supervise; and coach and mentor the work of subordinates
- Ability to maintain records and prepare written reports
- Ability to work in a team environment

Conditions of Employment:
- Ability to perform manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position
