Reporting to the Senior Ground Control Engineer, the candidate will ensure the geotechnical related integrity of all mining infrastructure through inspection, monitoring, and evaluation. The candidate will also be required to utilize existing and develop, establish and maintain new ground control strategies for both the short and long-range mining plans, including work on feasibility studies and execution plans for ultra-deep mining (below 3 km).Specific Accountabilities

• Investigate specific ground control problems with appropriate analysis and recommendations
• Conduct workplace audits to ensure that ground support practices conform to standards
• Review excavation plans and specify ground support systems suitable for safe execution of the work over the design service life of the opening
• Through appropriate instrumentation including fixed deformation gauges (crack gauges, extensometers, instrumented support tendons), and LIDAR scanning, monitor the stability of mine workings and performance of support elements over time, as part of a support system maintenance strategy
• Provide backup analysis services for the Ground Control Technical Specialist (Microseismic monitoring), including assistance in trouble shooting and equipment maintenance in the field, as well as the installation of new devices as required
• Supervise or carry out geotechnical projects when required, including monitoring the installation process and the in-situ performance of new support systems being tested for use at depth, in conjunction with members from the Mine Operations team
• In conjunction with other members of the Ground Control Group, monitor water flows through the area affected by mining, and provide appropriate inputs into the site water management plan

Qualifications

• College degree in a Mining technology or technologist program
• Advanced computer skills. Working knowledge of ACAD, AMINE, Excel, Word, PPT, database management tools, and monitoring tools including extensometers, would be an asset.
• Familiarity with CMS cavity survey systems, LIDAR scanners, drones, standard surveying equipment for remote movement monitoring, groundwater sampling, and full underground common core for hard rock mining would be an asset.
