Job Title: PRODUCTION SHIFT SUPERVISOR

Location: Ottawa, ON

Job Description: Description :Work Schedule:Pilkington Ottawa facility is a 24/7 manufacturing facility. Qualified candidates must be willing to work 12-hour shifts that include weekends and holidays.Purpose:To describe the responsibilities of the Production Shift Supervisor. To coordinate, direct and manage a group of teams to ensure that targets and objectives are met.Essential Functions:

  • Accountable for safety and environmental leadership while on duty; including training, audits, and associated corrective measures to ensure a safe working environment. This includes all safe working practices and policies are followed and enforced. In the event of an incident proper procedures must be followed, including an initial investigation performed on the shift when the incident occurred.
  • Provide direction and leadership to the hourly workforce through direct supervision, to ensure the completion of the production schedule while achieving optimum performance from the production line. Detailed monitoring of hourly KPI’s to anticipate and react to conditions which would lead to lower than expected performance.
  • Carries out administrational duties to ensure that the correct manning levels to meet production requirements are maintained on all shifts and Kronos records are maintained. In addition, verification, and completion of shift documentation in the form of a summary report is to be filled out at the conclusion of every shift.
  • Work closely with the other supervision within the plant to ensure the production goals of all departments are met, including manning movement within the production / warehouse team and optimization of maintenance.
  • Provides support to the Area and Department managers and process improvers in all areas of process improvement and performance enhancement, including the continuous improvement meetings and planning meetings.
  • Carry out trouble shooting of problems, changes to process variables to control and optimize the operation, changes to product parameters such as thickness and width to suit the production schedule.
  • Champion the workforce to sustain and improve the standards of housekeeping, orderliness, and cleanliness in all areas of the plant. Coordinate document and implement “Quick Kaizen” generated by shift.
  • Report the yields and losses in the morning meeting, focusing on root causes and implemented actions.
  • Maintains records of process parameters and/or changes, and personnel records, process performance numbers, and daily maintenance activities
  • Manages the production in accordance with ISO-9000/ISO-14000/ISO-18000 standards
  • Manages and maintains efficient production through process and equipment troubleshooting
  • Trains employees in job responsibilities and work rules, including reviewing safety, quality, and process parameters/procedures
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures that will ensure continual improvement of the manufacturing operation
  • Champion Lean Manufacturing Processes – 5S, Kaizens, Kanban, Problem Solving (8D / 5-Why), Six Sigma, ME360, Gemba Walks
  • Assist in the development and maintain structured housekeeping expectations are at the highest level.
  • Monitor various graphs and charts of daily operating conditions to ensure stability of the operation.

Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience successfully managing people in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or technically related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize objectives and targets to meet deadlines
  • Strong in results oriented, adaptable, standards driven, developing, influential and informative competencies

Qualifications Desired:

  • Advanced Problem-Solving Skills (Six Sigma)
  • Strong in analytical, innovative and strategic competencies
