As a recognition of our commitment to quality and patient safety, we have received the highest distinction of Exemplary Standing from Accreditation Canada.Job SummaryReporting to the Manager of Quality, Patient Safety and Risk, the Quality Specialist will work collaboratively with leaders and their teams to support and improve Quality and Patient safety at Southlake Regional Health Centre through guidance, support, subject matter expertise and education. The expectation of this role is achieved by working with teams (staff, physicians, patients and families) across the organization in the analysis of current and future workflows, while identifying opportunities for improvement by designing, developing, testing and implementing change ideas in alignment with the organization’s priorities in partnership with patients and families. The successful candidate will strive to be innovative, and patient centered, they will help to lead and promote patient safety initiatives using engagement strategies, Lean and Quality Improvement methodology, and developing or modifying processes and policies helping to meet our strategic goals. The successful candidate will work in a team environment and support the organization in leading teams to improve care, achieve strategic imperatives and assist in the Accreditation process.Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Engineering, or current registration with a health professional regulatory body. Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum 3 years’ experience in healthcare
  • Expertise in Quality Improvement methodology and Patient Safety
  • Working knowledge in Quality Improvement methodologies including the use of QI tools (e.g., process mapping/flow diagrams, cause, and effect diagrams, pareto charts, affinity diagrams, tree diagrams, 5S, FMEA, etc.) and the IHI Model for Improvement
  • Data measurement and analysis pertaining to quality and patient safety highly preferred
  • Expertise in patient safety principles and standards
  • Proficient in interpretation of clinical documentation
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong interpersonal, investigative, teaching and facilitation skills
  • Confident, flexible, service orientated and capable of managing multiple, competing priorities.
  • Superior communication skills demonstrated in verbal, written and presentation capacity
  • A leader who is able to establish credibility with all levels of the organization, challenging the status quo and being a catalyst for positive change.
  • Very strong attention to detail and process orientation
  • High level of integrity, trust and creditability
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated ability in communication (verbal and written), assessment skills, leadership and partnership
  • Proficiency in Visio, MS Office: Word, Excel, MS Project, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of incident management reporting systems (RL Datix) is an asset
  • Collaborate with clinical programs to implement recommendations that improve patient and staff safety by completing safety reviews, investigating safety incidents, analyzing data, identifying trends, and implementing recommendations.
  • Ability to assist with quality improvement planning process, monitor quality indicators and other quality initiatives/action plans, and report in collaboration with clinical program teams
  • Offer training and build capacity for physicians and clinical staff to enhance their understanding of Quality Improvement initiatives within the healthcare system as it relates to their department/portfolio.
  • Supports and facilitates ongoing readiness and preparedness for Accreditation, prepares updates, presentations and status reports on Accreditation
  • Assist and coach others on the development of Accreditation action plans, how to interpret and standards and address gaps
  • Participate in development of department’s annual goals & objectives
  • Build trust with staff and peers through excellence, respect, integrity, and compassion.
  • Be a champion for patient safety and quality improvement
