Being a team player and having an ability to interact effectively with client organizations, other disciplines, vendors, and contractors in our taskforce is essential.The Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineering Lead is responsible for instrumentation and control systems engineering and design development of projects in the mineral processing industry. The engineer will act as a project lead engineer and will be responsible for the project’s discipline engineers and designers.Day to day responsibilities include:Lead engineer or area lead engineer for feasibility studies and EPCM mineral processing projects of significant scale
- Translate global strategic initiatives into procedures to be implemented on projects
- Apply cost competitive execution techniques to develop the most cost-effective total project solution for execution of the discipline engineering work
- Develop and review project Scope of Services, Scope of Facilities, and other project baseline documents for all phases of projects
- Instrumentation and control systems engineering execution including supervision, planning, organization, and interfacing of vendor systems and equipment
- Engineering design and deliverables for project phases including conceptual design, prefeasibility, feasibility, front-end design engineering and detailed engineering
- Development of P&ID’s, instrument index, datasheets and specifications, block layout diagrams, cable schedules, panel layouts, instrument location details, loop and wiring diagrams, installation details, control interfacing of electrical MCC’s, inter-discipline reviews, vendor package interfacing, plant control system design, and communications infrastructure
- Instrument and control systems specifications in accordance with client requirements and project design requirements
- Procurement packages and technical evaluations
- Develop and review estimates and schedules, progress reports, including manpower forecasts
- Establish, track, and monitor material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts
- Incorporate health, safety, and environmental factors in design
- Develop and update job execution plans
- Develop and build external relations with client representatives, vendors, and subcontractors and interface closely with other discipline functions promoting Client Service Excellence
- Participate in activities associated with equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting
- Construction installation scopes of work
- Participation in HAZOP reviews
- Participation in factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT)
Site construction, engineering, and commissioning support Document redlining and turnover packages
- Preparation of schedules, estimates, and manpower forecasts Change management
- Communication and alignment with clients, vendors, and other disciplines.
- Supervision and mentoring of junior and intermediate level engineers and designers
- Promotion and support of value improvement initiatives and continuous performance improvement objectives
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Job Requirements
- Engineering degree or diploma specializing in industrial instrumentation or control / automation, Or Electrical Engineer with a focus on instrumentation
- Ten (10) to Fifteen (15) years’ experience in an EPC or EPCM environment
- Mineral processing experience
- Instrumentation field experience is preferred
- Project set-up, developing control-level schedules, progress reporting and project close-out experience
- Supervisory experience leading a team
- Extensive knowledge of instrumentation and control systems technology and design
- Knowledge of control system PCS and PLC hardware
- Understanding of Digital Mine, Cybersecurity and Industrial Control Networks
- Understanding of codes and governing regulations and industry practices
- Understand and support other disciplines’ tasks and deliverables
- Competent in English and possess excellent written and oral communication skills
- Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Be able to multi-task between several projects
Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
- Preference will be given to P.Eng
