Job Description: We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced leader to join our team as a Roadway Maintenance Leader II, specializing in turf and snow and ice control (SNIC). In this role, you’ll oversee and supervise field crews responsible for maintaining our city’s roadways, ensuring they deliver quality work while adhering to safety standards. You’ll be responsible for the daily supervision and guidance of field crews, ensuring the safe and efficient execution of tasks related to turf maintenance and snow and ice control. This includes scheduling, training, performance management, and promoting a positive and safe work environment. You’ll play a key role in maintaining our city’s infrastructure and ensuring our roads and public spaces are safe and accessible for all.What will you do?
- Supervise and mentor a team of skilled and semi-skilled workers in various tasks, including turf maintenance, mowing, trimming, and snow and ice control
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and procedures, including OH&S, ENVISO, and City of Edmonton SOPs
- Conduct regular staff meetings, addressing safety concerns, work expectations, and cultural commitments
- Monitor and evaluate employee performance, providing feedback and coaching to foster growth and development
- Collaborate with the Team Leader and Supervisor to implement work plans and ensure effective program delivery
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including the public, contractors, and other City departments
- Participate in safety investigations and contribute to the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Hazard Assessments (HA)
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Three years of practical experience in turf operations and/or snow and ice control
Assets:
- Experience with Google Applications Suite, SDMS, LMS, and SAP
- Knowledge of City policies, bylaws, legislation, and the collective agreement between the City of Edmonton and CUPE Local 30
- Emergency First Aid Certificate
Skills required for success:
- Demonstrated supervisory skills and experience in leading field-based teams
- Knowledge of equipment and tools used in SNIC and turf operations
- Strong understanding of safety practices and procedures related to SNIC and turf operations
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork
- Ability to motivate and mentor a diverse team

- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position
- Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Work Environment:
- The work environment is a mix of office and outdoor settings. The successful candidate will be exposed to various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, and snow. The position may also require working in awkward or constrained physical positions and exposure to chemicals and mechanical hazards
