As the AVP, Casualty – Eastern Canada, you will be a vital member of the team, supporting the profitability and growth of the Casualty underwriting operation: continuously developing, implementing, maintaining and improving underwriting appetite, guidelines, protocols, rates, pricing, quality of service, and strategic planning. Direct training, development and auditing of the Casualty underwriting team to ensure quality and proficiency. Interact and grow relationships with clients.Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate for the AVP, Casualty, role will be a hands-on expert with a proven track record in a top-tier Commercial Insurance Carrier. They should have experience in General Liability, Excess Commercial Casualty, and Umbrella.In addition to technical expertise, the AVP, Casualty should possess strong networking skills and the ability to establish relationships with retail brokers. They should also demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of the underwriting process, Further, expensing delivering underwriting training and management of small team.Moreover, the candidate must excel in communication and persuasion. It is essential for them to establish solid connections that are advantageous for AXIS and contribute to long-term strategic endeavors.The ideal AVP, Casualty candidate will have hands-on expertise with a top Commercial Insurance Carrier and experience in General Liability, Excess Commercial Casualty, and Umbrella.They should also excel in networking with retail brokers and possess strong underwriting skills with the ability to deliver training and manage small team. Effective communication and persuasion are crucial for building beneficial relationships for AXIS and supporting long-term strategic goals.Work ProfileThis role offers a blend of office and remote work, with three days spent in our Toronto office. Furthermore, frequent travel is required to conduct in-person meetings with brokers and clients and partake in industry and company functions.What will you do in this role?

• Support the Portfolio management of GL, Excess/Umbrella business.
• Develop and manage broker and client relationships throughout Eastern Canada (Ontario/Quebec)
• Prospect new business targets and opportunities. Develop account strategy and actively pursue new opportunities.
• Review and evaluate new and renewal business based upon company guidelines. Develop account strategy and proposal based upon full underwriting knowledge including industry, competitor news and economic factors. Develop and implement long-term Casualty strategy including budget, forecast, etc.
• Review account coverage requests. Determine AXIS position within granted authority and communicate to brokers.
• Analyze and underwrite individual risks. Develop appropriate limit structure, retention pricing and endorsements.
• Responsibility for Development and training of Casualty team, with potential for direct reports.
• Meet all divisional servicing objectives including but not limited to quote turnaround, policy issuance, phone management, renewal management, file maintenance and documentation, etc.
• Maintain data integrity for the underwriting system.
• Travel as necessary to build and maintain relationships and identify product opportunities.
• Collaborate with peers to seek out new production sources and allow for successful cross-marketing of AXIS products.
• Articulate the company’s position and risk appetite to the brokerage community to attract desired business.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; CIP/FCIP designation preferred

• 6 or more years of casualty underwriting experience

• Advanced technical expertise, underwriting skills and a high level of knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures

• Strong relationship management skills

• Strong marketing and presentation skills

What we prefer you to have:

• 2 or more years’ experience in people management and/or mentoring

• Advanced analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize.

• Successful track record of developing and maintaining a book of Casualty accounts

• Strong broker relationships.

• Strong influencing and negotiation skills.

• Energetic and passionate about the P&C insurance industry.
