We are an organization where individuals’ contributions are valued and there are many opportunities for personal growth and development.Position SummaryReporting to the Manager, Data Analytics & Health Information, the Health Information Professional is responsible for the coding and abstracting of both acute inpatient and outpatient visits. The Professional must be able to code and abstract the required number of charts during a shift while maintaining a high level of accuracy. This position will be expected to assist with additional coding sectors as required.Coding/Abstracting using the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Version, Canada (ICD – 10 – CA) and the Canadian Classification of Health Interventions (CCI).Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved course for Health Information Professionals is required.
  • An active certified member in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association is required.
  • Recommended professional affiliation (Ontario Health Information Management Association).
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a Health Records setting is required.
  • Two years experience in ICD 10 CA & CCI NACRS coding and abstracting is required.
  • Sound knowledge of Canadian Coding Standards for ICD 10 CA & CCI.
  • Commitment to data quality and related activities.
  • Commitment to follow hospital specific coding protocols.
  • Experience with Med2020 WinRecs abstracting system is an asset.
  • Experience with CERNER Hospital Information Systems is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Crystal Reports is an asset.
  • Must be well organized and able to demonstrate high productivity and accuracy.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office 2007 (outlook, word, excel, power point etc).
  • Demonstrated:

 Ability to understand and interpret medical information in order to accurately assign codes according to an established classification system (ICD-10 CA, CCI) for accurate computer input.
 Ability to follow established patterns and procedures in assembling, reviewing and abstracting information from health records.
 Ability to communicate in English (both verbally and in writing) effectively with peers, physicians, other paramedical staff, and the public.
 Computer literacy and demonstrated ability with Microsoft office (Word, Excel) and ADT system.
 Ability to set priorities, use excellent organizational and time management skills, pay attention to details, utilize own initiative and to use good judgment either working independently or in a group as a team member.
